Dealer rip-off
I've given the local Hummer Dearler a good chunk of money since buying my H2 (2003). Any time something needed fixin', they got the H2 and I got a "loaner" and a pretty good sized bill when the work was done.
Well, the radiator started leaking at the lower right corner a few days ago. I called the dealer this AM and asked the parts guy if they had one in stock. He comes back a few minutes later and says.."yep, we have ONE in stock and it's $872.12............. I said "With labor"? and He says NO....thats just the cost of the radiator.... After catching my breath I called the "service writer" and asked her for the price........CONFIRMED....price is $872.12 plus labor, plus fluids, plus disposal fees.....YADA YADA....... So I go to a local "mom&pop" repair shop.....They confirmed that the radiator is leaking.......Does the supplier have one in stock?? How Much?? Etc...........Botton line................I spent 4 hrs at the shop Radiator (new) $239.72 Upper & Lower hoses $75.00 Fluids & hose clamps $28. Labor $197.00 TOTAL $549.52 Total bill was $325.00 less than the dealer price for the part..... THIS SOUTH FLORIDA HUMMER DEALER CAN KISS MY A&# |
aside from being quoted on a "radiator"....there are so many different quality factors you gotta look at the specs them. There is some really cheap ****ty parts out there i'd never stick on any of my personal vehicles. Thats a big radiator...you were quoted a reasonable price for a factory unit. The performance radiator on my list is $1100 for an H2.
While you had the radiator out, did you bypass the tranny line going to it? There are enough problems w/ that on the stock units, if you got a lesser quality- I'd be reading up on the issue to correct it before it happens. |
