Default Coolant Problem

Hi guys. Wondering if you can help me. I havea 2003 H2. Its loosing coolant. Havent found from where yet, but it needs topping up every 2 days. Also, the expansion tank looks a bit browny.

Any common faults or things i can check? Iv had a search through the forum but not found a difinitive answer.

Thanks

Jay

I also have an 03 H2, but I have not had any coolant leakage......yet. Mine is also a little brown looking but it has always been like that. If its not dripping out on the ground, it could be leaking into the combustion chamber and exiting out the back as vapor. Lets hope its not that, it would mean the head gaskets may be blown...ouch! I'll also ask around.

Well, slightly good part is that its leaving puddles on the floor. But its a strange leak. If you park it, it doesnt always leak, then other times it does badly. Im going to have to wait for it to leak and then try hunt it down i think, not had the chance to yet. I was mostly concerned about the browny looking expansion tank.

Thanks

Jay

Needs a new water pump. It has a weep hole under the bearing on the drive pulley. When the bearing starts to fails it is time for a new pump.

You know the GM/dexcool antifreeze is orange, right? It will look a little muddy looking after a while.

A new water pump would be my guess as well. They can leak somedays and be fine the next. Cold weather will make them leak more often. The other thing I would check is to make sure the transmission fluid is not overfilled from coolant entering the trans from a bad radiator trans cooler going bad.

Good point Cal Bill. those are all good things to check. I learned a little from this and I hope I never have to deal with it, or at least right now anyways, its cold out there.
