Cognito/Bilstein H3 (leveled) shocks available again
http://cognitomotorsports.com/store/Hummer_H3.html Per their Web site..... These Bilstein / Cognito custom front shocks offer you the travel needed in order to level out your Hummer H3, enabling you to keep a good ride. The stock torsion keys have enough adjustment to get the height needed to level the vehicle. Just crank up the stock keys & replace the stock front shocks with this Cognito upgrade. I've got them on mine and like 'em. |

RE: Cognito/Bilstein H3 (leveled) shocks available again
Sorry man, I thought this line explained it:
“Just crank up the stock keys & replace the stock front shocks with this Cognito upgrade”. Lift is achieved via cranking the T-Bars. The shocks are designed to accommodate the altered suspension geometry and provide additional travel. When I had the dealer crank my T-Bars, the thing rode like a lumber wagon. You could feel the shocks hitting their travel limits. Now it’s a firm but comfortable ride. With these shocks and my wider tire/wheel combo, I have much more lateral stability than stock. Does this help? |
RE: Cognito/Bilstein H3 (leveled) shocks available again
I think so. In essence, you still need to crank the torsion bars to level the front, but the new shocks have more travel to keep the ride smoother than it would be with the stock shocks cranked.

Exactly.
No shock extenders to mess with or break....(Like in a Truxx or RL kit) For me, this set up is working fine.... After the dealer "Cranked Me Up". I was exactly at 24" in the front and 25” in the back. (as measured from axle center to fender lip) The stock shocks just weren’t cutting it, and I didn’t really trust the extensions, so I went with these guys. Been running this way since the first of the year and I'm satisified. |

I have these shocks.

Do you now if you can use the cognito shocks as replacements even though the Hummer is not leveled and may not plan to level it?
Also does anybody know what brand or manufacturer shocks comes from the factory on Hummer H3's? Wondering if they could be Bilstein from factory. I did not know, but when I went to replace the shocks on my Chevy Z71 off road Pick up truck, I found out they come from the factory with orange/red painted Bilstein shocks |
Stock ones are Tennco. A Tennessee company that makes several brands of shocks.
You could use the model of Bilstein that is being used for slightly lifted H3's you just would not use the extra travel when extended. It actually says on the box it is for a lifted Chevy truck. Shocks do not add any lift unless they are coil over. |
Eh hem.................. Yo guys, this thread is more than 4 YEARS OLD! And it is in the archive section.
