I got to my inlaws house. The Hummer was acting funny and was making some wired noises. i found out i am leaking oil out of this spot. A gasket needs to be here right and it definitely shouldnt be open 😵💫. We decide to drive the hummer because of the big storm rolling through michigan. now i am on the other side of the state wondering if i can even drive home with my family. leaking from this spot
EDIT: just caught your "acting funny" and "weird noises". How is it acting funny? What kind of weird noises? If something big enough happened in the engine, it could have caused the rear seal to leak (things moving like crank, etc). Definitely get the noises checked out before you embark on a cross state trip, especially in this cold.
Probably rear oil seal, though on this engine there might be a few other spots it could be coming from on the back of the engine.
Depending on the severity of the leak, it should be OK to drive, but CHECK THE OIL! You don't want to end up running it dry. If the leak ends up being faster than you can refill during a trip, don't drive it.

i think it has something to do with the torque converter. I took it arou d the block you hear alot of whining then the transmission slipped a few times. i am just clueless what goes in that missing spot. Also is their supposed to be fluid in that cavity??? If I press the peddle easy it seems to gain speed. i am just nervous being on 200 miles from home. hope she can make it.
That part is referred to as the "service slot plug". It appears to only be used to cover the slot used to lock the crank in place during certain work. It may be used for other things.
This is between the engine and transmission, so you could get either engine oil or transmission fluid leaking from this place. That said, what I see from your pictures is either engine oil, or VERY dirty transmission fluid.
Check your transmission fluid level (follow the owners manual instructions) to verify correct level, and also note the color on the dipstick. Should be a nice red color.
Gonna need ebay, car-part.com or local pick-n-pulls to find that plug. Got nothing to do with your leak.
Absent important info... How many miles? When was the last time you changed the Trans Fluid & Filter?
Hey Doc,
