Default Check engine light/transmission not shifting

We have a 2007 H2 Glacier Blue Limited Edition with 41K miles. The check engine light comes on periodically and the transmission feels as if it starts in 3rd gear and won't shift. The key also gets stuck in the ignition when we turn it off. We took it to the dealership and they said the cause was a low voltage on the battery. They replaced the battery and one day later we encountered the same problem. The key and the transmission did the same thing. We gave it a jump from our other car and the key came out and we restarted the truck and transmission was back to normal. However, check engine light was still on. Could we be having a battery problem or a bad micro-switch in the control column??? We have an extended warranty but we don't want to take it back and forth to the dealership. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, thanks Caraddict, I'm borrowing a code reader from a friend at work today and will check them. Any particular codes I should be looking for??

Default Solution

I have the same problem right now. Stuck in 3rd and engine light on. After changing the solenoid and replacing the ignition switch we finally found the problem. There is only one single wire that takes current from the computer to the transmission and it was losing voltage. This caused the truck to go into limp mode. We cut out and replace the wire and the problem was solved. $80.
