Check engine light and fuel cap light
Every time after I get gas my fuel cap and check engine light always comes on. I've taken it to autozone and they scanned it for me I forgot what the code was but it had something to do with the gas cap. So I bought a new gas cap and still nothing had changed. I've waited a few for the drive cycle but I had to remove the neg from the battery for it to go away. It's getting annoying. What's wrong how can I prevent this?

Probably a p0442 or p0455. Ignition key in off position when you are refueling? Try a different fuel cap, many recommend using a dealer part, however I installed a locking fuel cap I got from napa, when I first purchased my rig 2 years ago, and never had a problem (Balkamp 703-1724). GL

FUEL CAP This message displays if the vehicle’s fuel cap is either off or loose. Pull over as soon as possible and check to see if the fuel cap is secure. You may also see the check engine light on the instrument panel cluster. If the check engine light does come on when the fuel cap was loose, it may take a few driving trips before the light turns off. See Malfunction Indicator Lamp on page 186 for more information if the light still remains on. Press and release the reset stem to acknowledge the message and clear it from the display. |
