regarding drtom's babbling about his gas cap test

Only after several cycles of operating the vehicle would the fault trigger a code and appear as a P0455-EVAP system leak detected (large). Eventually your test leaving the gas cap off would have to trigger this & the CEL (Check Engine Light) as the system is pressure sensitive. Enjoyed the babbling, Ha! Chrome and Sandman, found their comments regarding gas choice and avoiding moisture issues interesting and hope Papa Joe was joking about them wanting to remove the gas tank to fix his EVAP valve cannister, but agree it is a jungle out there!

so i can drive south to indianapolis, stay a few days for the bowl game, drive to chicago for a weekend visit, and drive 222 miles back home. assumming no shutoff for a brief fillup,if /when needed, thats three. is that several or can i run up to kalamazoo to my favorite restaurant.,and head for home, without a code.

or were you just babbbabbbling?

how many cycles?

Can only speak from my experience with two codes with my 06 H3 @ 70k. Currenty I have a code P0128 occurring, I had the mechanic clear the code as a test. Three days later and eleven short trips of starting the engine and the light (CEL) came back on. I'm assuming I will need to replace the thermostat at this point even though the temp gage appears at the 1/4 th to 1/2 mark as it normally runs after warming up. Everything else appears to be running normally, cabin heat, idle, etc. So several cycles is my best answer.

BTW when in Kalamazoo stop in at Bell's Brewery for a fine porter.:p

after warmup it should not drop to 1/4 again. if if bobbles around??. mine is just under mid and never moves when moving.
i seriously am curious about not getting a code if it takes a long time, many cycles,AND i really do have fun finding new ways to get people rattled getting the point across!! it's creative writing practice. you can see how it works by reading how taint "blocks me" !!!
its a riot
