Default Catastrophic Engine Failure

In addition to my 2007 H3x, I am an original owner of a 2003 x-type with 2.5 motor. All dealer maintenance. I absolutely loved (past tense) this car. The engine seemed to get better as it broke in.

At 100k miles, dealer changed the oil and shortly their after experienced sudden, catastrophic engine failure. Prior to oil change, engine was in peak form.

Towed to dealer who determined it was internal engine but would not open it up to pinpoint problem.

They told me they do not perfom ANY internal engine diagnostics or work.

I was basically told to walk away from the car and check out their new and used models.

A little puzzled and perturbed, I had it towed to a third party mechanic who performed an "autotopsy" and determined that the failure was engine oil related and the fault of a defective oil filter.

I have called Jag USA and started a claim, I hope this will end without legal action (which I am prepared to take). I await their call back.

Any thoughts or comments on any portion of this post would greatly be appreciated.

s/ broken hearted Jag owner.

I assume no warranty? Might want to take it to another shop and get confirmation of the first shop's findings. If it goes legal you will want more opinions than just the one.

I've been through this before...I hope for your sake the mechanic that tore the motor down took pictures before and during the process!!! Especially of the filter the dealership installed still on the motor before he touched it. Good luck!

Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions. Still waiting on call back from Jag USA. New Mechanic took pictures, preserved the filter, which by the way has Jaguar in big letters all over it. He also took the engine over to the dealer to show them what he found.

Jaguar and dealer aggressively denied the claim. They even threw in a few false statements. Will see them in court.
