Default BW 4:1 transfer case whine

Maybe this is normal, is the BW 4:1 transfercase supposed to have a loud gear whine in 4-low? I am assuming it is gear driven and not a chain drive. With that much reduction, I am assuming the gear noise is normal? Seems quietest in 1st gear, low range. 2nd gear low range is louder.

Normal for any transfer case in low range that I have ever owned including 2 H3 Lux's, 2 Jeeps, 2 International Scouts and Chevrolet Pickups. I still miss those old Scouts. One was a 1964 3 speed and the other was a 1966 4 speed.

Ok. It's just louder than the chain driven case on my Nissan Frontier I just sold. I can't remember how loud my 4Runner was with a marlin crawler, sold that 12 years ago....

Huh, for some reason I thought it was a gear drive and not chain drive.

I wonder why it's louder in low range 4, 3 , and 2 and quieter in 1st gear?

Hi.
I have the same gear winding sound too.
It could be the bearing inside the transfer case is faulty.
I will get my fix once all my performance parts are in.
At the meant time, try to change the transfer case fluid with the best protection on bearing and get it fix fast.

JFWIW
Anytime you are driving a hummer 3,in any mode ,the chain drive operates the same, its 1:1 driving the front drive shaft.
Noises have to come from gears.
