Break-in Procedure

Who here followed break-in procedure to the "T"?
Not going over 55mph for the 1st 500 miles is kinda hard. What's ya'lls take on this? Any harm done if not followed?

RE: Break-in Procedure

I am friends with a well respected race motor builder...and he recommends driving it hard for a few miles then slow down and drive easy...repeat. When on highway don't use cruise and try to vary seeds....75 for awhile 60 for a bit so on and so on. Reason bieng is that you need to seat the rings properly, driving it slow and easy will not seat the rings and will lead to a weaker and more problematic motor later on in it's life. I towed alot with mine when I first got it and because of that I have bad fuel mileage but just don't tow and you'll be fine. There are many sides to this discussion and there is no way to change anyones opinion on it.

I've heard it both ways as well. I have been driving it over 55mph but never WOT yet. I'm gonna wait untill 500 miles before I do WOT. I just wanted to see what Hummer owners like to do.

RE: Break-in Procedure

it s just like any other engine, dont try and do burnouts or drag races, just drive it,try to get on the interstate once a day for a week, and let her go,you should not have any problems,i myself build my own derby engines, and i break them in on my engine stand, hold em at about 5000 rpm for a couple minutes, then about 3000 for a couple minutes, and do that for an hour, and i have never had a problem

RE: Break-in Procedure

I did normal driving the first 500 miles, around town and on the freeway. Tried not to go over 65 mph but did on occasion. Resisted aggressive take-offs for the most part.
