Bilstein Shock Question
Ok I did a search, but didn't find that answer I was looking for......My question is as follows:
Can I just install the cognitos without doing the torsion bar lift? and do you just install 2 on the front, or can you do all 4 with the same part number?
After carefully diagnosing my truck, I noticed that on the warm days, when it's 80 out, the truck is higher and doesn't clunk at all. So after having the steering shaft issue taken care of I know it's not that.....but once it gets colder and the shocks get bumped, then it clunks like a dead shock....I also checked the body mounts and mine are nice and tight, so I know it is not them.
I'm thinking by installing a much better shock that my truck will ride the way it's supposed to. It's amazing how much higher my Alpha rides on warm days....and it's almost level. My friends thought I raised the front end......
I checked with my distributor and I can get the Bilstein Cognitos #6140's for $79.95 a piece......it's a little better than what is advertised out there.....BUT I need to know how many to get for my rig?

These Bilstein front shocks offer you the travel needed in order to level out your Hummer H3, enabling you to keep a good ride. The stock torsion keys have enough adjustment to get the height needed to level the vehicle. Just crank up the stock keys & replace the stock front shocks with this Cognito upgrade.
and since I don't have a 3 I dunno your answer about 2 vs 4.... BUT... the fronts and rears are different on every vehicle I have ever owned so I think you need two for the front and two for the rear of a different type...
If you want to see for yourself... look at the rears... if they have a stud on top then they are close to being the same... if they attach the same way at the top as they do at the bottom then... NO...

yeah all my other trucks were always different from front to rear......so yeah I'll probably need a different part number. I'm just looking to replace the cheap GM shocks with a better built shock. On my Dodge's I always used Ranchos because it would hold the road a lot better, and give it good cornering. From what I read the Ranchos are not available for the 3 yet. I don't want to do the TB lift at all......just get a much better ride.

I would call them and talk to them. The Bilsteins they sell are longer than stock (for the lift) so if you put it on a stock height truck you may run the risk of bottoming them out which would be bad for them &your truck.
see, I asked myself the same question... so I ended buying both a ReadyLift leveling kit plus Bilstein Cognitos!
... the bilstein website doesnt specify for all 4... but my guess is that you will need different shocks.. you can buy the torsion lift kit, it will come with a shock extender (basically a ring) and buy all 4 of another brand...
