Auto Open Rear hatch
 

Hey all,
I am wondering if anyone ever looked into an auto open rear hatch like the newer model Chevy SUVs have as an option?

I just thought it would be nice to be carrying out something and just hit the button and it unlocks and opens up

I know one of the new Grand Cherokees we looked at one time had an auto hatch. One of the struts had what seemed to be a screw mechanism built into the strut unit which opened and closed the hatch.


I suppose if you could find a direct replacement, as in the right length of strut the only issue would be wiring it in. The other issue is how would you get it to open?


Powering the strut wouldn't be a big deal, I'm sure its 12volt positive and negative. However with no extra button on the fob I'm not sure what you would use. You could use the double unlock which unlocks the rest of the doors and hatch to trigger the auto open.


Issue with that, I know for myself I am constantly opening my rear driver side door so every time I unlocked all the doors the hatch would open.....


Great idea but would definitely take some thinking.
