Auto locks
O.K. another noob question. How do I get the damn auto locks to turn off!? I've looked in the owners manual to no evail. It only gives me 3 locking settings, and no way to turn off. Is there a secret sequence I can use? It's frustrating to everyone involved when someone needs to jump out to do/get something(like unlocking a gate at a ranch, or checking an upcoming obsticle)[:@], and is locked in. Any idea?
Auto lock ... way cool. I have never encountered it on my H3. My other car has a Viper alarm system, and it does auto locking for me. When you figure out how to turn it off/on, let me know.
He is not referring to autolocking with an alarm system, he is referring to the fact that the doors lock as soon as you put theH3 into drive and they unlock as soon as you put it back into park. I to have encountered many a passenger attempting to exit before I have put the H3 into park. They pull on the door handle and it does not open. They have to either a)manually unlock the door b)hit the unlock button or c) wait for me to put it in park. I was not aware that there was a way to change any of these settings......back to the OM.
I don't think you can turn that off. I'll have to check at work on Monday we might be able to disable that with a tech 2. Although it might be considered as a safety issue so getting a dealer to do that for you might be impossible.
I justt think it's stupid that you can't turn it off.[:@] Does GM think i'm going to be rolling down the freeway and just decide to jump out? Like the unlock button is going to deter sombody from doing that if they wanted to! I'v never had a car that didn't allow you to disable autolock. There has got to be some secret way (like some manufactures have to turn off seatbelt chimes/ full traction control, etc.) to turn it off for good.
Look at page 3-42 in the 2008 manual, it tells you how to reprogram the door locks. From what I have read, unless the dealer can do it, you can't stop them from locking. You CAN program when it unlocks or doesn't. Sorry. I'm guessing that the function is there due to carjackings. Not sure, it's the only thing that I can think of, you are driving a "high profile vehicle" which I would assume would appealing to someone considering that. I have the same problem and I'm just waiting for somebody to break my dang handle, for some reason they think if they pull harder it will open .
It's frustrating when someone wants to jump out of the truck real quick to do something. My family has a ranch, so passengers are constantly having to hop out of the truck to open gates and stuff. Also, when we go off road, and i want my passenger to spot me on an obsticle, and i come o a stop to let them out, they end up flailing at the door handle to try to get it open quickly. Also noticed how much of a pain it was when me and 3 buddies were christmas shopping the other day, and I pull into every place we stop, and they are ready to get out before I get it in park, and WHAM, everybody is slamming handles![:@] I just would like to have the ability to control my own door locks...

I couldn't disable them on my Ford Explorer so it isn't a GN thing. What's your beef with auto door locks?

At least on the Explorer you don't have to unlock the the door to get out, you pull the inside handle and it unlocks the door.
