How many belts are on the front of the engine? 2 ? Got a hell of a squeak/tick, sprayed some WD40 on the belts and sound went away for a bit. How many miles should these belts last? Plan on replacing them.

 

2 belts. The serpentine belt runs everything but the AC compressor. Check the maintenance schedule in your owners manual for inspection and replacement.

 

Changing of the belt(s) is NOT based upon mileage, there is NO set interval, but it will typically be between 60-100K miles. Spraying solvent of a belt is never a good idea?

You change a belt based upon inspection. Your squealing can be caused by an tensioner pulley spring getting worn out and potentially have nothing to do with belt condition. Some will tell you when it is time to replace the belt, replace the tensioner or vice versa.

If you have cracks (many), glazing, fraying, or loss of belt material. If any of that is going on, replace.

 

Serpentine belt was going, 52k miles. Swapped it out today.

 

I changed mine at 30k last month(it was cracked and slipping), belts go bad with age, mileage,enviroment and grade of belt. it's not just one thing.I live in the Northeast (high salt area).
