ALL H3 Owners: Please Read! Another Defective Part!
HummerGuy,
How loud was the clunking noise before? Was it fairly consistent and happens all the time?
I just started noticing a very faint noise when I shift from 1st to 2nd, but it only happens occassionally and not all the time.
It's very faint, and low frequency clunk, and doesn't happen all the time.
Should I bring mine back? I kinda wanted to wait if it gets worst coz our only Hummer dealer here is about 50miles away.

That's how it started for me, and it progressively got worse. What really did it was the last time I switched to Locked 4x4 mode. I took a 30 degree turn in some rocks, and i gave it some gas to get it going. Well, that was it.
It happens when too much torque is applied to the front wheels when it locked mode. The brackets that hold the differential on have bushings inside that crack. There are stronger replacements for these since apparently GM knows there is a problem with them. It starts small but gets bigger. It's apparent on the lower 1 2 and 3 gears and goes away in higher gears because the torque on the system is less. If you really want to break it more, put it in 4x4 locked mode and make some turns on the pavement. You may break a few other things though lol.
If it's what happened to mine, it will get worse, more when you use 4x4 locked mode. The replacement parts though are stronger, and you will be surprised how smooth the shifting is. you don't even feel it when you re-engage the clutch again. I wonder if they were defective right off the bat.
You can always PM me if you want more info on it. I even have the receipt with the part numbers and all that just in case you take it and th edealer doesnt know what it is.

I am having the exact same problem with my 09 H3. Did some offroading today and it started making that clanking noise. Im gonna call the dealership and print your info out so that I can resolve this issue asap. Thank Man!
So who's the dealer? On those rare occasions when someone actually likes a dealershiop, we ought to share the info.
Would the noise be heard when, let's say your driving on the highway at 65mph and you let off the gas, and you feel the vehicle slow down and then hit the gas again, and it makes a thud noise like something is getting slammed into something else to start going 65mph. Mine does this, it's not bad. I have 46000 and the transmission was a little low on fluid so I added some of the gm fluid and it made it alot better like it can shift easier, but it is somewhat still there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Well, after having my 06 for 5 weeks the same thing happened to mine. I heard a clanging/grinding that got worse over 4 days, and before I made it to my appointment to have it looked at it locked up on the highway. My Hummer dealer basically said the front diff "blew up" and they will be replacing the whole front axle. Should have more details this week.
Bottom line, if this starts happening take it to the dealer ASAP! Luckily I only had 31K miles and it's all covered.
