i plan to buy a h3 2006 yellow , a basic one. with a high millage about 125 000 mile
the condition look clean , great shape , great tire , no corrosion.


the price is low about 11000 can (10 000 us),


i drive it yesterday and i love it .




but Im affraid with the high millage i dont know if the hummer have a longevity reputation ,


before buy i will send it to a expert to inspect the truck, what he should check?


its a great deal to buy a high millage truck ?

 

Yes the H3 can go a long time milage wise.
Gf's got over 100k miles.

Honestly that price seems high (10k for 06 H3 with 125,000 miles).

Check the Radiator for leaks/cracks at the top (very common problem)

Get a OBD2 scanner and scan the vehicle!

Check the car history (like a car fax)

Check the front CV seals for leaking (another common issue)

Check engine for cylinder misfires or cracked cylinder head.

Find out what trim it is, such as adventure, luxury, chrome.

Does it have a moonroof?

 

the truck have exactly 109361mi (bad conversion)
and the price is high yes but in canada quebec hummer are rare! so the truck keep his price !

i know he already change the radioator. can the expert check all the item you list ? or is not alway visible?

i will print this list and tell him to check careful!

 

no moonroof the base one ! no extra, no leather but he put a ****ing nice audio system for listening my french music

 

I don't think the price is high. I see prices in the 11-14K range frequently for 100K+ mileage H3s. If the condition seems good it seems like a fair deal to me.

 

I'm a mechanic and I've owned my H3 for about a month and I've already had several issues. Here's what I would look for based on my experience:

You mentioned the radiator being changed - that's good. that's the biggest issue I've had so far.

Definitely check for rust since you're in north where they salt the roads

Have the mechanic check the HVAC system - another problem I've run into

If he wants to get in depth with his inspection - have him do a compression test. If you look online at service records - failed compression is the number one engine failure on these hummers. I normally charge $150 for a compression test but if it were me and someone brought me a pre-purchase inspection - I would do the entire inspection and compression test for $150. This may seem steep but $150 is nothing compared to what it would cost to repair.

From an old post of mine, check the VIN# to see if it was assembled before the L52 Motors received the hardened valve seats.

"The S/Ns affected is any 2006 H3 lower than 287591 .... the first one started with 100,001, your truck build date will be Nov. 06 or earlier. Not all have the problem, but some could. The head issue affected not only the I5, 4s and 6s were subject to the same issues.

Just in case you're gonna say, wow they didn't even build that many 3s? The VINs are assigned at the same shreveport plant building Colorados and Canyons. Their VIN sequence unit #s are mixed in and subject to the same TSB re: the head/valve issue.

The recall and extended warranty was for very early 2006s, those with the 3.5L L52 Motors built before March 31, 2006."
