Default AC recharge capacity

All,
I need to settle an issue....

What is the official capacity of the AC system? I have read, after the system is evacuated, you recharge with 3lbs of refrigerant....BUT....then I also read that applies to units with a "rear AC unit". I have an 04 H2, two rear "vents" but no real rear AC unit. The spec for no "rear AC unit" indicates 1.6lbs.

Dealer one evacuated 1lb this AM and recharged with 3lbs....then went on to tell me my compressor was bad.

Dealer two (more trustworthy for me) took the truck, put me in a loaner, called my about 4PM and told my that dealer one overcharged the system and THEY blew out the compressor.

When I took truck in to dealer one (much closer to where I live, but not my normal dealer), the unit was blowing cool to cold air...I just thought it was struggling a bit. When I got it back...nothing but warm to not so cool air.

Dealer one says they did nothing wrong....but I believe they did.

Help?

2003 owners manual chapter 6-69 states that it takes 1.8 lbs. Here is a link to the electronic version. I am looking to have mine recharged this week.

Thanks!!! Same link for the 2004 (just change the 3 to a 4 in the year) and it indicates 1.6lbs on page 5-106.....just like dealer two told me. One lesson...ALWAYS trust your gut! You'd think after 46 years I would have learned.....

You can have it

QUICK
GOOD
FAST

Pick TWO!

Thanks again!!

I find it interesting that in one model year it was reduced by .2 lbs. Wait until you need a Blower Motor Resistor and you find that the part for the Hummer is exclusive and the part is on national backorder.
