AC Off light and coolant leak

2008 H3 101,000 miles.

AC off light came on w/temp gauge dropping to off the other day. Took it to shop and they said there was no coolant in the reserve and none that they could see in the radiator by taking the cap off.

I don't ever see fluid so they said it must be internal.

My question is, do you think the two are related and how big is my bill going to be?

Garage called and said it was a cracked radiator at the top (I think I read where this is a common problem.)

$700 later........we shall see.

Yeah dude, if you browse this forum, you'll see that the cracked radiator is possibly the most common defect that H3 owners come across.

Could have replaced it yourself for $150-$250. I did it and I'm not a mechanic.

I would suggest checking your fluids more often, might save you a heap of loot in the long run.

Bought my 2008 H3 with 74,000 on it. 1 week later, my radiator cracked. cost me $900 to get it replaced by a non dealer shop. It seems to be a very common problem with our H3's

When the temp sensor has no contact with coolant, it cannot get a reading. When the PCM cannot determine coolant temp, the first layer of overheat protection is AC OFF.

So.... are they related? Answer...... YES.
