4.56 gears on stock tires?
 

I have an 03 with the stock 4.10s. I'm about to do a cam swap and was wondering if anyone is running 4.56 gears on the stock 35s. I've read in other forums that higher gears will give you more off the line power. If anyone has done this, did you notice an increase in off the line power?, better or worse mpg?, and what are your rpms when your are doing 70 mph?

What type of driving do you do?
Only offroading: 4.56s, no question (move to 37s)
Mostly city: You'll see increased MPG with the stop & go at lower speeds.
Mostly highway: You'll see decreased MPG (RPMs will be 200 or 300 higher, iirc)
Mixed: If you're more city, more mpg, more highway, less; goes without saying...


What kind of driving are you doing?
It sounds like a lot of city/highway/no offroad (correct me if I'm wrong).Slightly off topic... If this is the case & you don't care if you don't have MT/AT tires, look at the Michelin Defender LTX M/S. It comes in a 35/12.5r20 (Yeah, kinda sucks to move to 20s, lol), but your mileage should increase, you should have a better ride & they are built tough as nails; they just don't look it.

If you're only driving around the city & want crazy torque/launch speeds, why not just move to 4.88s? :D

You need a programmer like super chips to fix mpg reporting, abs, shift points, etc.

I mainly do city driving (stop and go traffic), some highway, and I will occasionally go off-roading but nothing too crazy. I just bought new ko2's 4000 miles ago and I like the look of them with the 17's. My only concern with the 4.56 or 4.88's is that the rpms will be too high at high way speeds (I have a straight pipe). Does changing the axle ratios mess with the abs?
