3rd Brake Light $$$$$

Went to get the h3 inspected yesterday. I had been waiting at the dealership about an hour and started to get impatient thinking what's taking so long. Service lady comes out and says "we have a problem". "Your third brake light isn't working (won't pass inspection without it) and the light asymbly needs to be replaced. And it's kinda expensive". I asked, define expensive. She say's the lamp is $192.00 and $60 labor. You've got to be FU#@KING kidding me was my reply. $297 total for my inspection sticker.

The bulbs are non-replaceable, they're LED's. The whole assembly needs to be replaced which consists of a housing, LED's, and circuit board. The idea behind the LED's is they never burn out, but, unless they're jerking you around for a 'loose wire', the circuit board malfunctioned. It's not a big job to replace. Cut your loss's by $60 and do it yourself.;)

Price sounds about right for the assembly, GM list is $192.55. The assembly goes for $119.00 + $30.35 shipping from GM Parts Direct ($149.35 Shipped). Part number for the assembly is 10357891.

I had one go out on one of our 08 H3s. Replaced under warranty, had a bad circut board. So they do "go bad".

If you are even slightly mechanically inclined you can purchase the part from the above parts supplier and replace it yourself. Save $100! I bet if you PM drtom and ask nicley he will even send you the breakdown of the rear panel removal. If not there are others who have that info also.

Hope this helps!

Come on, you probably knew that it wasn't working, went to the inspection hoping to get an At a boy passing, just cause it wasn't the main rear lights, then had a cockadoodle fit because they won't pass ya. Let then do it, do it yourself, or check the wiring to make sure it's not a fuse or something.

You are lucky you are not in NY, tail light works but cracked no pass. Here in SC NO inspection, but a $232.50 ticket if out.............

What an as$h@1e! If I knew it wasn't working I would have ordered one myself and put it in myself. I never expected an "at a boy". I'm quite aware that it won't pass without it working.

"cockadoodle fit"? Is that how they talk in SC? You gotta be kidding. lol

By the way, I am in NY. Not too bright are ya.

added edit,,the book i downloaded says nothing on how to take apart. it shows the door panel off and 2 screws. looks so simple!!! yeah, i bet id have broken tabs all over. i assure you i would never pay the bucks i see here. id put a 1157 ?bulb in place of leds. later
