305/70/16 tires on 16 x 7.5 rims??
I'm having trouble finding a local tire installer who will mount a set of General Grabber AT2 tires on my stock 16 x 7.5 inch rims. According to General, the minimum rim width for a 305 tire is 8 inches. Consequently, none of the local tire shops will mount the tires on my rims. The risk, according to the tire installers, is that the bead could break away from the rim (espically durring towing) and the "foot print" will be bowed out. I suggested running the tires at, say, 30 psi to flatten out the "foot print," but the installers did not think that was a good idea.
So, for all of you that have mounted 305 tireson the stock 7.5 inch rims, have you experienced any problems? I've done a search on the subject and didn't find anybody reporting a problem. Also, what is the downside of a 305 tire? The upside, of course, is that they look really cool ;). |

I've been running 315/70/16 on the stock rim's for about 8 months and no problems.
The down side is you lose a bit HP and MPG, but off road man!!!!! the foot print of these tires make all the difference in the world, the year before I was running the same tirebut they where 33's, now there are places I'm going that I could not before.:D:D:D |

I've been running BFG315/75/16 AT KO's on the stock rims with absolutely no problems at both highway speeds and off road, thoughI did have to trim the inside of thefender flares I had added (but this was with an FULL load - completely stuffed inside, full roof rack, and a hitch-haul on the back).
