2008 H2 Transmission failure - replace or rebuild?
Hi all,
'08 H2, 118k miles. Transmission failed yesterday on the highway. I restarted it and got it to go into second gear, then I drove it right to the local GM dealer. They pulled error code P0776, which corresponds to a stuck solenoid. They are quoting me $6200 to install a new transmission (along with flushing oil out of something and an exhaust leak. Yes, I get a 3yr/100k mile warranty with it, but that's a big chunk of coin. They could pull it and try to fix/rebuild it but they cannot pin a price on it since they don't know what it will need, and there'll be no warranty on the work. Anyone experienced in their own H2 transmission failures want to offer any suggestions? |
You can prob get a rebuilt one shipped to you for $3300-$4k. These are a little more expensive than the older models since the 08-09 have the 4L80 trans.

Who sells them? And what might it cost to install?
|
Did you mean 6L80 on the '08-'09 H2s?
|
Okay never mind - I just talked to a very good shop in the area and they are going to fix it, since they are confident that they can bring it back for less than half the cost of replacement.

I think your first problem was taking it to a GM dealership. If you needed a new wiper they'd quote $2000. I'd take it to a good transmission shop and have it rebuilt personally
You are wrong . A new wiper is 2000 plus tax I paid 1400 for my rebuilt transmission with 3 years nationwide warranty from streetsmart and 500 to install By the way. The rebuilt Transmissions comes with some upgrades over the oem I would also ask the shop to install am aftermarket Trans cooler to bypass the radiator which eventually will mess with your new or rebuilt transmission |
