Default 2006 H3 needs a new head.

My H3 needs a new head. I have a P0171 code bank 1 & 2 running lean. The dealer said that it needs a new head due to valve leak from intake $3000. I was skeptical about it until my reasearch led me to the truth. My friend in Cali works at the chevy dealer as a mechanic and he told me that its a common thing for the H3. Still I wanted to convince myself so I did a compression check and got consistant 180 - 185 PSI on the 3-4 stroke. Compressed air how ever yelded valve leak and a solid exhaust seal. The head was designed with some crappy valve seat material that has a short life. He said that they get a lot of them in for that reason. I do have 140,000 miles on mine. It runs great except for that darn head. Has anyone else had this problem. I would do the job myself but not sure if i will get it done fast enough not to mention the cold weather. I was also told that you need a special tool for the cam sprokets. Parts from the dealer will run me around $1500. Head alone is 1200.

thx
Mike
