2004 Hummer Air Compressor
I am getting ready to replace the air suspension bag on my 2004 Hummer H2 with coil springs due to the typical failure of the system because of age. The air compressor still works however and I do enjoy being able to use it for tire inflation. When I go through the process of disconnecting the airlines to the bags, is there a way to isolate them and still have the ability to use the compressor by activating with the rear switch as always?

Welcome to HF.
MOVED this as the New Member Section is for howdy hellos only, not tech questions. All H2 questions go in the H2 section. |
I think it would be tricky at best since the computer monitors the pressure in the air springs, the position of the height sensors, etc and it will not run if there is an error present (Service Air Suspension message). If you managed to trick it it still might give an error, for example you put a lot of weight in the rear, then the position sensors will detect that and try to compensate by adding air to the air springs.
Other than the air springs wearing out what is the typical failure due to age? Mine is a 2003 and works great. Sure I did have to replace the air springs at one point. I've heard of the compressors and or related electronics failing before but not very often. What I have seen most is people replacing worn out air springs themselves using the cheapest Chinese ones they can get online and either the cheap bags fail rather quickly or they cause some other leak (usually a nick in the airline when they replaced them and were not super careful) when replacing them. Then they get mad, say the system is crap, rip it out and put coil springs on. |
Echo MixManSC completely.
For the tire inflator to work, the AS needs to be intact, so you might as well keep the air-bags. "typical failure of the system because of age" suggests there's some kind of air leak i.e. the rear-end is dropping either on one side or both sides? |
