2004 H2 front seat heater problems
Hey guys, I did a search and found a little information on this. I would like to ask everyone's opinion. 2004 h2 with only 78,000 miles. When you turn on the front seat heater it stays on for a minute or so and the seat begin to get hot and then the lights will go out. Any ideas? I read some comments about relays and I read some comments about the element being burnt open, it seems to me that if the seat is beginning to get hot in the element may be okay or could be nearing the end of it's life. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

The element is open.
Try swapping the switch from the other door. You may get lucky. If it does the same thing it's the element. |
I have new info ... If someone is in the passenger seat and we both have our seat belts on.... The heaters work fine... Relay?

That is weird. Have you located the relay yet. If so, see if you can find an identical one in the panel and swap them. See if it corrects. If so you've found your problem.
I've seen them work for a few minutes and then shut off. One time it was the switch in the door and one time it was the element. |
It's strange, they work for as long as you want with them both on and someone buckled in passenger seats.

Ok, discovered another quirk this morning. .. My son went out to crank it to warm it up... I came out a few mins later and all the doors were locked. Luckily I had another key. I figured he just hit a lock button on the way out . Later in the day, I was sitting in the car and cranked it... A second later all the doors locked. I played with all the auto lock settings but it still does it. How can you crank it in the morning to warm it, walk away and the doors not lock??

try disconnecting your battery cables. Join the cables together and let it sit for 1/2 hr. this will drain your capacitors and hopefully dump the memory your computer is holding on to. it,s a shot in the dark.
starting to look like computer or wiring issue |
Thanks for the info guysI ... I am going to locate the relay and change it..... Some times the heaters work ... Sometimes they don't ... Makes me think it's the relay.. When i got in it this morning ... The presets on the radio were cleared. Weird ... Hope I didn't buy a problem ... :(
