My own personal opinion is the MPG difference between driving 65 compared to driving 75 makes a big difference. I have not done a comparison, but just the increased sound from wind noise gives a person a pretty good clue as to what is going on with the "aerodynamics" of a H2. Add a good headwind to that and you can watch your average MPG drop like a brick.

 

No not at all, I just have a problem with ignorance.

These are 10,000 pound OFF ROADING VEHICLES. YES, they get terrible mileage. You bought a HUMMER, remember? Not a Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris. They have huge gas guzzling v8's, the aerodynamics of a garbage truck, and gearing made for going slow thru trails. Thats the nature of the beast. Thats why I love my H3 that gets a good 20mpg on the highway with 4 people and luggage.

 

I checked my air filter last night and pretty clean, and one of my tires was about 2lbs low. I'm curious VegasGuy do you have any mods on your vehicle? I would love to be able to go a full week without filling up and the delta between your figures and mine would put me over that hump.

 

^Outta curiousity.. whats your tires aired up to? I would keep the PSI about 38 or so if you can. That will certainly help a lot. I would also look into getting an aftermarket intake and a tuner, and perhaps an exhaust (money allowing). Those things typically help American V8's substantially and I think you would be pleased with a few mpg boost (and lots of power).

 

Stock filter and exhaust. Air pressure @ 39 psi.

 

PAULDY when i bought my h2 .2003, i changed out the plugs and wires , upgraded the air filter and intake to airaid and that did help. if i get into it i still can burn the fuel but i would look at these fixes before going to the tuner and exhaust , unless you have the cash , hope this helps ,mike

 

Interesting I was using a formula I was given (GAWR/(2*maxload))*max cold psi. This gave me 31.3 front and 39 rear base off 4k front and 5k rear. I've been running 32 front 39 rear, I bet if I bump those front tires up front I find my extra 2-3mpg.

 

Yea I'm not going to rolling any huge mods any time soon. I just have very accurate records on my fuel consumption and I wasn't even close to VegasGuys numbers. Naturally this made me curious how much effort it would take to get there.

 

I have an 03 and 05 H2's

My 03 gets 9.73 average and my wifes gets 10.75 in her 05, I have intake and cat back, hers is stock.

and yep, she drives harder than I do and idols more than I do (school pickups etc)

I have a buddy with HP tuner who has offered me a tune, he feels that he can find about 2MPG in both trucks. I will post my results soon and provide the tune if your interested.

 

The trip computer on my 08 H2 says I'm getting 16.9 L/100 km. I only drive in the city, with lots of freeway driving at 100km/h. I have 12 000 km on it right now, not great, but no worse than any other full size (Gas ) truck or SUV. And this is a HUMMER !
