My girlfriend's 1996 H-1 died while driving -- had to be towed home. The Dealer had just returned it to her -- from an earlier "sputtering" incident -- unable to find anything wrong with it.

So I'm guessing some kinda of intermittent electrical issue -- but I'm some distance away and unable to fiddle with it.

Any known issues here? any help appreciated. I did search the forum for "died" -- and didn't see much there.

If it is a turbo diesel first guess is a PMD. Could also be a bad lift pump

 

Thanks! -- I've located the PMD and lift pump at an online parts store.

BTW -- would either the PMD or a pump issue have shown-up on the dealer's computer diagnostic? (should they have caught it?)

A failing PMD can throw a code but doesn't always. Generally a lift pump failing does not throw a code.

 

My 1998 has the same type of problem
It was the ignition switch that burned out
It was very pricey $900 to replace
