16.5 inch rims

I was looking for some new mt tires for a hummer that has the 16.5 inch rim. Is it possible to run a 16'' or 17'' tire on these 16.5'' rims? I read an article that said the gsa are not made anymore and the mt version of these are going all to the military. If I can't fit a 16 or 17'' tire I would half to buy new wheels also correct?

He usually has the 37x12.5x16.5 surplus MT tires.
