07 vs 08 Models

Hello. I'm new here and just bought a black '08 H3. While at the dealer, I noticed that the advertised MPG on the window sticker is actually lower in the '08 model than the '07. Does anyone know why? The salesperson told me that the '08 engine had been "tuned for more horsepower", which of course I'm a little hesitant to believe. Why would they increase the horsepower and not advertise it? I was assuming that the the salesperson just said this because we went in planning on buying an '07 and they didn't have any on their lot and gave us a good deal on an '08 for about the same price.

I do know that GM has, in the past, increased horsepower and not advertised the true amount (I can give at least one good example, but I'm trying not to ramble on here to much), but I just don't see it in this case, so I'm confused about the gas mileage change.

Anyone know?

Thanks!

The EPA changed tested procedures beginning with the 2008 model year. The new testing is suppose to reflect more of a "real world" mpg.

Thanks. I figured it was something like that.

2007 posted 15 & 19 for the 3.7L I5 Automatic
2008 revised EPA shows 14 & 18 for the same 3.7L I5 Automatic

No difference except in EPA test methods.

I applaud the industry by updating their rated MPG. It's long over due. Fact is, these numbers seem well within reason to me, heck, my 07 has gotten me 20MPG several times on long hiway trips with stock tires and doing the speed limit.

Man, I never get EPA estimated mpg. Of course I contribute to that problem by 1) putting bigger, MT tires on and 2)always driving with the traffic ~70mph in the GSP (speed limit of 55)and ~80mph on the Turnpike (limit of 65) ;).

In the Lotus,I actually stay much closer to the speed limit [:-]

Wow! So people are driving slower on the GSP and the Turnpike since I left the Garden State. Never thought that would happen.:D:D:D
