06 H3 front binding and locking

Occasionally my front end is binding and locking up (well almost) while driving. Typically know it's going to happen when I apply the break and get a slight kickback on the pedal. Afterwards the front end binds, clunks, sounds like it's going to break and then releases. This can happen for several attempts at moving forward then will eventually stop. Replaced left cv drive shaft, checked the front main drive shaft no problem. Right cv seems ok. Happens sometime while going along at 30-40mph. Scary. Any ideas. ABS, traction, and stability warnings are on. When this happens these warnings do not display.

Transfer case plastic shift for is my first guess. I had a similar issue and the cheap fork was it, replaced with metal fork and all is well.

Are you using OEM brake rotors and pads up front? Have you had a wheel off for a good look at them?

When was the last time you changed the front diff lube? I would drain it and see what is in the lube to see if there is any shiny metal flakes.

Messed up brake calipers can stick and act as you describe, or a toasted front diff ring gear can cross up when braking (the old wax and wane thing) and cause noise, clunking... until it breaks.
