'03 fuel gage issue

Took the wife's H2 out today. 2 things happened the shift cable slipped off the tranny lever, and the fuel gage was at F when i started the truck and went clockwise to the Pump icon. When I turned it off, it went back to F.
The cable isn't a problem.
But, the fuel level will be an issue driving cross-country. Anyone see this before?
Will be digging into the Manual, just checking in here for some possible quick info.

Sounds like a bad stepper motor. Easy fix, do a google search and replace all of them.

There are YouTube videos on replacing the bulbs and stepper motors in the cluster if you want to do it yourself. Otherwise, there's services on eBay who will refurbish your cluster for around $100

Ordered a “kit” from Rockauto. Contained motors and bulbs for like $15. Pulled the three cover panels (6 screws), the cluster (4screws) and one elec. connector.
Took about 45 min. to remove cluster, desolder/re-solder and re-install.
