Tachometer with low reactivity now not working
Ladies and Gents,
I am new to the Hummer world, but not new to the automotive field. I've been wrenching since I was a teen and bought my first broken down car to be able to get out of the house. Any way, problem I'm having is that the tach on my 2010 H3T was not showing much change when shifting through the gears right after I bought her. She is a 5sp manual and so I know about what to expect when I go for the next gear based on road speed and engine noise. She would display between 700RPM and about 2500RPM. Never any higher. Anyway, yesterday I was pulling out into traffic here in Maryland and I had to gas it pretty good. Tach spiked up to display about 3K and then fell lifelessly down to zero where she now resides. Thoughts on this? Stepper motor given up the ghost? Does anyone know if the tach, speed and gages are all one unit or are they separate on this beast? I have searched not only this forum but also tried several key word searches in google without joy. Apologize if there is already a writeup or something on this. Jason |
Probably the stepper motor as you said.
Depending on your mileage I would say purchase a new/used cluster with mileage UNDER your current. It's all plug and play after that. Not sure what is involved with stepper motor replacement. I haven't heard of any who have had to replace one. |
Thanks for the reply brother! Is the immobilizer located in the cluster or someplace else in these vehicles? If it is elsewhere, a plug and play may be the way to go. However, I've got a manual so that will probably complicate getting a newer cluster just a bit.
Thanks again, Jason |
Not sure what you mean by "immobilizer".
Should be the same cluster just without the P R L D 3 2 1, maybe you can swap your portion without the letters/numbers into a working unit? Instrument Cluster - GM (25946693)https://parts.courtesychev.com/oem-parts/gm-instrument-cluster-25946693This is for a manual trans, not sure if it is for MPH or KPH? |

Thanks for the tip! Jason |
Yep, no chips in our keys.
Good luck with the cluster search. |
