Hi i was wondering if anyone has ever done a backup camera like this? It doesn't seem to be hard to do but was wondering if it would be effective in seeing enough of your surroundings.

 

Better late than never… I had a backup camera installed by a local shop, but my camera is located above the license plate. Given that the plate is not centered, the camera needed to be angled. For this alternative method, I find that the backup camera is good enough not to hit stuff, but lacks the accuracy and precision that would likely be had if it were mounted where you’re asking. Just wanted to share some experience on the backup camera.

 

I bought my truck with a backup camera on the handle, not a big fan of it tbh, would rather have one that faces directly rearward

 

oh, but I’m just noticing that it appears that yours is pointed down. If I’m not mistaken, with the proper setup, you might be able to have an additional camera and leave the one that’s there as an alternative (manually selectable) camera.

initially the technician and I were discussing camera mounting location, and the only other spot we thought was reasonable was on top of the tow hitch.
