2008 H3 BCM repair; Odometer failure
I thought that it may be helpful to some of the forum members to share my experience with the BCM gettiing wet and the odometer failing on my 08 H3.
I pulled the BCM, opened it up, and discovered a cooked IF filter (LTCV10.7MA5-A 10.7MHZ Ceramic Filter 280KHZ equivalent to Murata SFE/CV10.7MA5) at one of the chips. I have ordered the filter from a supplier in the UK ( Mainline Electronics Ltd) and will be installing it, once it arrives, to test whether I have fixed the issue. I also thoroughly checked the board for shorts, for blown resistors and caps, and for other visible signs of damage. There were no other detectable issues.https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hum...69b502a13b.jpg However, it is strange for the filter to blow without some cause, aside from moisture. I suspect it may be a failure of the chip to which the IF filter feeds. This chip is "a very low power consumption single chip FSK/ASK Superhet erodyne Receiver (SHR) for the frequency band 310 to 350 MHz that is pin compatible with the ASK Receiver TDA5201" I am not sure how that integrates with the H3 systems but suspect it may be for operation of the remote door opener.. Why that may have affected my odometer, I don't know. I do know, from a bit of research, that the odometer in the instrument cluster and the BCM communicate to sync data and to verify both the mileage and the vehicle serial number. Is it possible this is done wirelessly? I don't know. Regardless, I will keep the forum posted regarding the repair success or failure. I have attached a link to video I posted on youtube that chronicles the process. |
