Hopefully someone on here can help. My husband is doing some maintaince on our 2006 H3 3.5 w/ 104k. Changed out plugs and cleaned the tb & maf sensor. When he disconnected the intake resonator , he pulled the mystery hose. We think it is the crankcase vent hose. This hose is cracked and we are in need to replace it. Is this the correct name for the hose? Secondly, can we have an auto part store cut some hose for its replacement or must it be replaced with a special hose with the same bends.
My final question is the sludge that was found in this hose. What would cause this and are there repairs that need to be done? When the hose was removed we found some nasty sludge on the valve/nipple, in the hose, and the valve/nipple leading up to the intake resonator. Any help is greatly appreciated

looks like what happens when oil and water/antifreeze mix

is your oil dip stick covered in the same thing?

none of the sludge is on the dipstick, oil cap or oil. Just changed oil 2 days before this maintance.

Looks like the crank case PCV hose, bit hard to see though.

Normally has some oil sludge in it as it sucks the oil mist out of the crank case into the intake and burns it up, but it is not supposed to look like that.

That looks like it has water mixed with oil causing it to go milky.

Clean everything up, wash in degreaser and replace hose, then keep an eye on it.

Yea this is the pcv hose thats under the stock collector box. The sludge looking stuff as aussie said is cause by water and oil mix. It will look like that there because air is being pulled through that hose and sometimes a little oil from the top end comes through to. Its not a big deal just if you start to see it on the dipstick and oil cap.

This also happens when the engine dosen't get to full operating temp. Short drives in the winter time this will happen.
