Used H3 questions....
Around town I get high 16's to low 17's. I have an '06 Adventure/Luxury auto with a catback, K&N cold air intake and a PCMforLess.com tune. On the freeway the mileage doesn't go up too much....I think I hit 19 mpg once. Buy one....You'll love it!
Debbiejeep's Alpha is a daily driver - to/from work. Occasional 200-300 mile trips. In daily driving she get about 15-16. Reasonable speeds on trip she can push 19. Stock 18 inch tires. When she got tired of her RX-330 (which was a week after she got it) and the dealer would not fix it's problems, she looked at Hummer and just loved it. However she did not like the lack of power, so when the Alpha came out, she ran down and got one. You'd have to pry it from her cold, dead hands!!!!!
First post here, but I have been lurking and reading and searching for a few months now
.
I am planning on buying a used H3 in the next year, and I have some questions for you guys....
#1. Is the PCM for less tune really needed for the 2007+ since they have the 3.7L and 22 more hp than the 06? If I were to drive a stock 06 back to back with a stock 07 could I notice the 22 hp?
Is the tune needed, no. Is it worth it, yes. I just got mine back. I justified it with the fuel savings. Yes, mileage goes up. I got about 1 mpg more after the tune right out of the box. I have no dyno results to base anything on, but I think there is a SOTP performance increase. Most of it seems to be in the upper RPM range, though. Not really a benefit offroad, but nice for daily driving. Yes, you will notice the difference between the 3.5L and the 3.7L.
#2. Did they drop that nice dark green color after 2006?
I believe so. Eihter after '06 or '07.
#3. What kind of real world gas mileage can I expect combined city/highway if I am a slow poke and keep my foot out of it?? (Can I get 18-20?)
Before the PCM tune I was getting about 18 mixed but mostly highway. First tank after tune, I got 18.9. 20 is completely possible despite what anyone says.
#4. Anyone with the Goodyear Duratracks....are they really quiet on-road???
Don't have them, and can't comment firsthand. A lot of people seem very happy with them, though. I do think some of the sizes are made in Canada, so you may get some grief from the "Buy American" crowd. Don't quote me on the origin though.
#5. Onstar...is the basic emergency response active even out in the country off-road???
Good question. I don't know the answer.
Thanks guys, I hope to be an H3 owner next year sometime!

I know I want 2007+ to get the 3.7L, and probably white paint/solid black cloth interior with the sunroof. I want the tow pkg, but I think I could be ok without the adventure/offroad pkg as this is my first real 4x4. I used to have a Jeep Liberty 2wd V6 and loved it, but only had it offroad once in a while and was kinda afraid to try stuff with it being 2wd. It got 16-18 mph, and drove great.
Right now my daily driver is a very custom PT Cruiser, and I love it! I have had it for 4 years and will have it paid off this coming year, it is a 2 seater with all stereo in the back, so I need a second vehicle and decided the H3 is the one for me.
I want the H3 to share duty driving back and forth to work, 40 miles per day highway. I need the space that I lost customizing the PT. I am also VERY anxious to get it offroad, but I'll have to find a local club to learn from. I also want to do some weekend day trips and some camping. The local Hummer dealer has one of those test ride tracks that I'll have to try out too.
Tires will be the first upgrade for me, Duratracs, 265 cause I am not lifting it. It'll get some side steps, a CB radio, and small stereo upgrade.
Mileage is always a concern, but I get 21 with the PT, so if I can get 18-19 from the H3, fine. I drive like a slow poke, usually 60-70 in the slow lane.
I'll be posting up all kinds of questions as I get closer to actually buying one. Can't do so til after the PT is paid off and becomes my part time driven, mostly show car.
For the H3, I already have the book about the history, a 2007 factory brochure, an H3 engraved key chain, and a dealer picture card and some matchbox Hummers lined up on my desk at work!
I am scouring ebay for a factory H3 key blank, so I can add it to my collection......So the dream is alive!
Starting this Christmas, I am going to put away money for a down payment, and 5 new duratrac tires! I want the tires to be ready to go right after I get the H3!
Thanks again for all the replies and advice!
Cary.

You can actually go to the 285's without any lift at all. In fact, you can go all the way to the 315's without a lift, but it would be helpful to crank the T-Bars if going to the 35's. Hope you get your rig soon!
THANKS!
