Default Upper windshield trim question.

Most of the threads, I've read, concerning windshields, are old. And, relevant to young Hummers. Now, that my '07 is 12 years old, it's showing signs of aging. Specifically, right now my concern is under the trim/seal at the top of the windshield.

While, recently cleaning under that trim piece I found a piece if weatherstripping that extended, almost, all the way across. It looked like generic square weatherstrip that comes in a roll, from any auto parts store. Being as old as it was, it was shrunk and misshapen. Making it hard to recognize. Having worked in a body shop, I don't recall ever seeing this type of a setup.

My question is... Is this piece original? Or, something a PO has added for sealing purposes, or something?

Side note: High winds and/or heavy rain, has a tendency to push leaves, seeds and such debris, under the trim piece. I've found myself pulling this stuff out, quite often. Anyone else notice this, on theirs? If so, what have you done about it?

Thanks, everyone,
EJ

Are we talking about #4 in the diagram above? If so it should be "T" shaped.

No. It was underneath the trim piece #4.
Lifting the roof side of that trim, is where I found the foam weatherstrip.
Also, looking at some of your other pics, It is not the double sided tape, on the windshield side of that trim.

However, looking at your diagrams, it doesn't appear that what I'm asking about is normal. It's not in those diagrams.
That's why I was wondering if this was someone's fix for a leaking windshield?
