Rough idle
I have an 07 h3 3.7 with and occasional rough idle. Cleaned the maf and throttlebody, has new intake gaskets and vvt solenoid. I can get the idle to smooth out if i turn my ac on then off...

Also has new ac delco plugs, pcv hose.

Someone on here changed where they fueled up and problem was solved. This has been beat to death on this forum. Do a little searching. You got all the basics covered.

Always use quality gas, they call it top tier in many parts of the country. |
Ive tried every station in town thinking that was the problem.. using top tier now. I find it weird that when i turn my ac on it smooths out., doesnt make sense.

My 06 is the same, AC on and idles pretty smooth. I think it is just nature of the I5. I ordered the Air Doc and AFE air filter to help out the H3, just waiting on AFE to ship out filter. |
I dont think its just how it is. Some days it runs smooth others it will be smooth then i come to a stop and it has a bad vibration.. steering wheel all over the place because of it. Ive notice every now and then when i come to a stop or brake hard the rpms drop below 500, or the rpms wont drop smooth it will be choppy. Like maybe a throttle postion sensor but i think you have to replace the throttle body to replace that not sure. Correct me if im wrong. It didnt do this when i bought it had 107k on it then now its at 143k.

Just about the same symptoms as mine, I have 52k miles on mine. I’m interested in the throttle body fix or sensor. |
Its never had check engine light or stored codes except for the vvt solenoid and the thermostat... found out about the intake gaskets by checking the bolts, and most of them backed out on there own. So i figured that was what was causing the rough idle so i changed them, and it got better of course but maybe twice a day or so it does this... so one day i turned my ac on let it kick in and turned it off and it smoothed out.

Forgot about it but another thing i had to change was the plug for the map sensor because i moved the wiring harness for it and the motor died.

All of what you are describing could be normal for an I5, it is all a matter of degree.
I5s are inherently unbalanced and do vibrate at idle. When you turn on the AC, the AC Clutch kicks on, the PCM increases idle to compensate, and the vibration is reduced. The H3 has the GM smart Regulator Voltage Control system with fuel management. When you stop, the PCM and BCM compare input regarding fuel, speed, and voltage needed to operate whatever is on/being used, and the engine idle speed is reduced to the lowest RPM capable of delivering on reduced fuel consumption and just enough for the alternator to generate sufficient power to operate everything needed -nothing more- all while the alternator itself adjusts its output changing the load on the belt. While the comparisons of input, signals from the PCM to TB etc take hundredths of a second, some lag can occur when the system adjusts itself, and it can create the sensation of a rough idle or even a false stall for a second or so. The classic situation where this happens is braking to a stop, brake lights on, speed going to zero, and RPM reducing with speed. Many customers would see headlights dim a moment and think something was wrong, just Smart RVC and fuel management doing their things. It's all a matter of degree and we can't see/feel exactly what you are describing. |
I understand what your saying but when i bought it in never did this. The lights would dim when i hit the brakes but that never bothered me. It had a vibration but not this bad, i will try to get a video of it if i can. Just started within the last 6 months or so. Could this be the altenator going bad or somthing along them lines. Ive changed the battery terminals to since the stock ones are junk thinking it might have been that. One thing that did happen was after i canged the intake gaskets the altenator was making a squeal noise is the best i can describe it. But that has went away so i figured it was just sand/dirt in it.

wow ihope you reply. ihave identicle problem. yes, the TPS and IAC motor are sealed to the TB.
