Roof Rack Cross Bars
I have an 08 H3 Alpha with no sunroof, no marker lights and no roof rack cross bars. I want to install a roof basket. Every basket I read about says load limit is 150lbs - 165lbs. Is that just the basket rating or basket and cross bars together? I want a longer basket for when I go out on the trails. If I added 4 cross bars, will that increase load capacity of said basket?
That did not answer my question. I asked if I have 3-4 cross bars, will they be able to support more weight.
I do not think so. The roof rail channels are attached to the roof via Rivnuts that break when weight is too much. One of the Australian members was doing the overland thing with too much up top, broke those and had to do extensive work to reattach the rails in a stronger fashion.
I think it was Skippy if you want to look for his old thread on the topic.

I still use 2 oem crossbars, loaded 600lbs+. NEVER a problem.
You need to understand the roof load rate & the roof rail rate.
Roof load rate=4800+ lbs
Rail rate= properly secured to the roof, if not your roof rails uplift/tears out, with high winds.
I use 2 ratchet tie down straps that wrap into the cabin on my heavy loads!
