I have a question about the roof rack cross bars. I have a basket that I am contemplating putting on my 06 H3. My problem is this: every so often I have to park in a parking garage that has low clearance for work. Maybe once a month or so. I have some cross bars that I drilled and mounted to the roof channels using some 1/2" bolts with the pan head/square end method. Nice flat washers and nuts to hold the bars on. All stainless hardware, then covered the bolts with some heater hose I cut to fit. Looks great, but now wont fit in the garage, and is not very easy to remove. With the factory cross bars..do they just lift up and off once you unlock them? Or would it be the same as the bolts that I used...I have to loosen them all and slide them to the front of the roof channel. Hope I'm making sence with this. In other words, if I buy a set of OEM cross bars, can I just unlock them at the four mounting points, and lift the whole basket/cross bar assembly off when I need to get in the parking garage?

 

Assuming they are the same as the 08 cross bars, need to unlock, lurn locking mechanism and then slide to front...probably not what you wanted to hear......good luck...

Sure does. Maybe I'll sell it and pursue other mods...
