Does anybody know how to remove the stock exhaust. I want to get a new Magnaflow system, and I just need helping removing the original exhaust. Also how long do you think it would take? If anyone has pictures that would be awesome.

 

I installed my own exhaust system, it was a bolt on one but the stock exhaust needed some pb blaster and a cut off wheel to "let go" otherwise pretty simple to do, the old exhaust came free when I let the suspension droop... Pictures are pretty much useless as it really is only a 1 beer on the difficulty meter...

 

it is super easy cut pipe right in front of muffler and remove the muffler and end pipe, , unscrew bracket and remove the rest of the pipe. install new exhaust, tighten it up, make sure its all straight, drive to muffler shop and have them weld the joints ( cost me $20 )

took about 1-2 hours. like most work on H3 takes longer to lift and secure vehicle, than the actual labor .

pretty simple job.. pblaster for a few days prior to acually unbolting everything... 1 beer job is right but having a buddie there would help

 

Spray the rubber exhaust hangars with silicone lubricant, this will make them easier to get off the original, and the new will slide right in. Us a big screw driver to pry the hangers out of the rubber (a craftsman cotter key puller works the best, just hook the rubber and slid it of the end of the hanger bars).

One man 30 minute job.

 

Doc I like to use the dish detergent as opposed to the silicone lube... And yea I got me a big old HD 12" flat head craftsman screw driver that is a great "manipulator" lol

 

On my 06 and 08 I5's it came off in 1 piece from the catalytic converter with a little manipulating. However on the 10 Alpha, I had to do some cutting to remove it. As others have stated, lube the hangers before you start.

 

I have a question pertaining to the catalytic converter. If i was to gut it out then chop off pipe after the sensor will i still receive some form of check engine light?? And yes, i know this is illegal but its only temporary.
