Rear clunking noise . . .
So I've had my '06 H3 for about 5 days now. Not sure if it's normal, but every time I go over a pothole, speed bump, etc..., the rear suspension clunks and I get slight reverb bouncing. Pretty subtle bouncing, but the clunking is reminiscent of an empty paint bucket hitting the ground. That hollow clunking noise. Then a short clanking of metal on metal. Doesn't seem to affect the driving. Just very annoying.
It is not the tire changer. Removed all that from the back door compartment. This sounds like suspension. Any idea what this might be? |
Anyone? Bueller?

Hello hollywould,
maybe a bushing of the rear shocks is worn out, have you allready checked that? Maybe your jack? Greets Jens |
I had the same noise, turned out to be a loose bolt on the bottom of the shock.

Hey, Jens. I did remove the jack. That thing makes a grip of noise. I'll check the bushings.
gc - Could definitely be a loose bolt. Almost exactly what it sounds like. Whatever it is it's driving me bat chit. Every little bump I hit, clunk-clunk-clunk-dink. |
Not sure if you're still around Hollywould but did you ever figure this out? Or anyone else. Our fantastic roads in Mihcigan is like putting the poor H3 in a paint shaker on a daily basis. :(

It was probably the door.

I used to have a rattle sound when I got mine. Turned out to be a loose nerf bar. A couple turns of a wrench and it was fixed!

Clunking sound from rear suspension
Had the same problem with my Alpha, turned out the rear diff was banging the exhaust pipe. Switched to stainless cat back exhaust and that cured the problem.
|
I'LL check that out. Thanks
