Default Is this normal?

So i just recently purchased a 07 H3 i really like it but having some strange issues i tried hooking a obd scanner to it and when i do all the guages and all the power to the cluster seems to shut off guages go to 0 no illuminated lights and i cannot seem to get my scanner to actually connect to the vehicle . When i unplug the scanner power resumes to guages and dash etc has anyone else had this problem?

NO, what you describe is not normal.

I have a scan gauge II plugged in at all times, everything works.

Try a different scanner, or try the scanner you have on another vehicle to see if it does the same thing then you will know the scanner is the issue.
