Newbie needs wheel/tire help

I have an 06 H3 with stock 16" wheels and tires...my son is about to inherit this machine and he wants to outfit it with larger/wheels and tires..long story short he wants to put 20" ballistic jesters on it with 285/50/20 tires...the wheel guy says these will work just fine...now i would liek to get your thoughts/comments/gotchas, adn all around advice..will this work and if so, do i need to have anything done with the vehicle relative to the speedometer? Are these tires too big for this machine..c'mon need everything you got!!

Other than looking ridiculous, riding like crap and able to feel every single pebble on the road wrapped in 50 series tires, sure it will work.

Keep the 16'' wheels and put 315's on them...

Not sure i understand your comments...here's a photo of another red h3 that he trying to duplicate and i'm not sure why you think this would look ridiculous? if a 50 series tire is not tehy way to go, what would you suggest?

Nice choice of rims...

It actualy does not look too bad...but not perfect!

You could put 295/60R20 (Nitto Terra) tires on the rims what would look much better.
Or sure if you want the more off road look with some 35x12.5x20 tires....or at least 33".

Check out this forum and you will find a lot of info!

Looks like one of those toy cars where you pull them backwards a few time to wind them up.

20" wheels are usually quite a bit heavier than the stockers = more braking distance required to stop and more wear and tear on the front end components. With the wheels sticking out that far your going to be slinging crap all over the side of it and at everyone else.

If it was me I would skip the slick tires and twomps and put the money into something useful. College, stocks etc.

Tastes are different...we should accept it and help with advice!

Putting money into something usefull....yeah that I heard always from my parents and my answer was following:
I live my life every day, because if tomorrow a truck run me over I have to blame myself that I didn't!

While that dosent look bad its a truck and I think trucks should have big lug tires. Not a big fan of anything I see on a home boy mobile Ghetto blaster, know what I am say-in dog. :p

As somebody with younger eyes, I can appreciate the look he wants to achieve. That setup looks good. I'm not a fan of giant chrome wheels, but those wheels look fine to me.

As long as he doesn't plan on trying to go off road, then the 20's will be fine. It will ride a bit rough, but that's an acceptable loss to have a sweet looking ride. :)

As you have already found out, a lot of people will tell you to stay away from big wheels and just go with big tires, but it's his truck and at the end of the day it's his (or your) money and he should do what he wants.

One last thing...if he gets those wheels and tires, make sure he gets the spare to match, because otherwise it will look ridiculous with 4 aftermarket wheels on it and a stock spare. lol
