I took my H3 to the dealer today for a knocking noise coming from the front of my truck. The symptoms sounded similiar to the steering shaft problem but from what I have heard and read it only affected 07's, and Ihardly feltit in the pedals or steering wheel, I did feel it on the floor and so did my passengers.

Well...my steering shaft is the problem, and mine is an 06, made 10/05.

So..all you 06's out there watch out!!

Update:
It turns out that the front crossmember was also loose, they re-torqued it.

 

lol I had that fixed on my 06 sierra and i also know it is affecting escalades. The believe the problem is actually the way it is greased but they replace the whole shaft. I have seen boxes full of shafts that have been taken off.

 

I work for a cadillac hummer dealer (shop forman). I have just started to see this problem on the 07's and have never done one on a 06 yet. There is a tsb on this concern. Steve

I also thought it was only 07's...I hope they know what they are doing. I havent done much driving since they retightened the front crossmember to see if the problem is totally gone or if there is still some knocking from the steering shaft. If I don't hear it anymore I may not take it in when they get the new shaft.

 

After driving some more today the knocking I was hearing is still there so I guess it must be the steering shaft. There is less knocking due to them tightening the crossmember but I can still hear and feel some knocks. So.... I guess 06's aren't immune to this problem.

 

I had mine replaced on my '06 H3, much better now. Still knocks *slightly* and not very often, but i'm kewl with it until it gets worse.

 

Is this problem a recall, because I am out of warranty?
