has anybody ever painted the front silver part? if so, what did you use?
(thinking of painting it black, diy job)

scuff it smooth and paint it with good rattle can....

I personally used textured rattle can on a friends and that will hide some mistakes.

It's pretty much the same as the skidplate, which I have also painted with texture rattle can. I did that on my wife's H2 and 3 years later it still looks great. I have not touched it up.

Scuff it up good with a scotch pad, like Muddy suggested. That's what I did to my skid, and added 3-4 good even coats...plus it's easy to touch up if it starts getting chipped really bad. I guess that I could have washed it first:D

I'd like to paint mine as well, since it's got a bunch of chips missing, but the same piece on my 2007 isn't silver. It's more of a dark brownish-grey. Anybody know what color that would be?

what if you had it powered coated?

Try using Rustoleum Satin Black. It's very close to the black trim color.
I touch up my OEM rock sliders and it blends right in.
Some other people have used Rustoleum Black Hammertone and claim it matches perfectly.

;)

My 07 with Hammered Black RustOleum, (to repair from a nice bash from a rock to the nose) in the days before the winch bumper.
