I have an 07 with 62K miles. I was hearing a grinding sounding coming from my front end. I put the truck on the lift and pulled the drain plug on the front differential and it was dry. I guess the seal failed and I lost all of my oil at some point. I filled the differential with oil hoping I didnt do any permanent damage but it was still grinding. My GF's father put it on the flat bed and took it to his friends shop. He said the differential is shot and will need to be replaced. They found a replacement on OH for $1100. He said with labor Id be back on the road for $1450. Does that sound like a fair price? From what I hear the dealer charges $2200+.

 

That's a considerable bit of gear oil to be lost. I'd think the underside of your rig would be coated with oil if you actually leaked it all out.

As far as the cost, is the replacement they found new or used?

 

All depends on if it is a used, rebuilt or new diff.

 

What the other fellas said.. Dont seem like too much for the labor, but you need to know what your getting...

 

low fluid usually only destroys the bearings...

 

It was a lightly used front differential. It ended up being $1385 for parts and labor. my truck is back on the road now. I was kind of in a bind because I just moved to Chicago from Kansas city. I had to leave my truck at my brothers in KC because of the differential. Im just glad its fixed...Im tired of riding the subway to work every day.
