Faraday cage effect

Does anyone else who has a Gobi full roof rack or similar, have issues with G.P.S and phone reception?
if so, did you solve the issue?

I have not had an issue, but a buddy did with the XM/OnStar antennae and he relocated it to the top of his Gobi.
