Engine rattle, steering column rattle

Engine rattle, steering column rattle
I have a 2006 Hummer H3 with 93,000 miles. I have a new engine squeak/rattle when the car is started and at idle, it goes away when the engine is revved or driving. Almost sounds like the water pump or some other bearing going bad, but the sound goes away at a higher RPM than idle.
Also, I am getting a metallic clinging in the steering column. It comes and goes, but seems to get better if I pull on the steering wheel when it is happening...almost like it is in the top end (where the steering wheel meets the column) of the steering column.
Any advice?

a little dish washing liquid worked on my belt noise. I have the same steering clunk your talking about. There is a TSB for it but like Draketh said dont worry till it fails, unless you still have warranty! If you you have warranty than make them change the steering linkage. Its a $300 part so im just waiting till mines goes then will replace! Great post!

My 06 has also developed the rattle clunking in the top of the steering column. Seems to go away if I put some down pressure on the wheel. Only happens at idle also. I have heard of the steering linkage problem but the way I read that problem it was more of a thud-type sound. I guess the noise is subjective though.

My cluncking does go away with pressure as well, but my issue only happens periodically when driving...not at idle. It is annoying and I would love to know what is causing it so I can fix it. Anyone have a diagram of the steering wheel assembly?
I tried belt conditioner...didn't work. I wouldn't think it is the water pump or any other bearing since it is very random when it happens. I hear it most when it is parked in the driveway facing downhill. I am going to investigate further in the next few days.

I have a similar rattle when truck is first started and its been sitting for a few hrs or more. Goes away right after truck is started. Sounds like a exhaust shield rattle or something. Rattle is only like 1.5seconds then goes away. Any thoughts?
