guess i am gonna have to go out and buy me a set of gages for a leak down test! all the shops around want 2-3 hours at $105/hour! i can get the gages for $100 or less, then i can resale or keep.

you can rent or loan one from most auto stores like advance auto. or just buy a cheap one there for about $25.00. i would do that before i would sink that kind of cash on a compression gauge . just make sure you run the test on all the cylinders to get the average . then a leak down test .

Before you waste any money, a compression check and a leak down test are two different things and two different instruments.
Piston tdc, air compressor, regulator, gauges

i understand that. but a compression test will tell me if i have a leak. it will not tell me a percentage, but the waranty should cover any thing that causes a cylinder leakage!

A compression test will tell you the compression unless you have ring problems. It will not tell you if you have a valve leak with the cylinder head. Most will pass a compression test no problem since it is just a quick burst reading. A leak down test holds steady air pressure to the cylinder.
The cylinder head is a well documented problem. You can throw parts at it all day wishing and hoping it is something else.

You have an 07, It has a factory 100k powertrain warranty. If your under 100k quit goofing with it and take it in for them to fix. If your over 100k call hummer and open a case with them.

Default Missfire and engine light

Hi all,

I have the H3 2007 with 44000 miles.
From the beginning i have the engine light that lights up and goes off again.
Took it to the garage and they told me that is was normal because i run on gas.
They hooked it on the computer and there they saw it was a missfire on cilinder 5.
They erased the code and the light was gone.
A few miles later it came back on.
They say it is a well known problem, because running on gas needs 3000v more and when the engine gets less, the missfire code takes place.
The told me to change the spark pluggs and maybe that would solve the problem.
I ordered them and am still waiting for them to arrive.
But now i did something else!
I bought an OBD 2 scanner ( ebay 25us) and scanned my car myself.
It found 1 problem. I simply erased it. And......
The light is off! It is still off and i drove already 110 miles with no enoying lights on.
And, maybe i imagening it, but it seems i have more power. It accellerates better than before.
So, happy with my tool from ebay and no more garage costs to read/erase codes or turn off the engine check lights.

K.
